Copywriting Intern | Acorns
Acorns is seeking a Copywriting Intern to join the Creative team for a 12-week internship. Heads up — this might be the only copy internship where you could change someone else’s future more than you change your own. We’ll get to that part in a second. First, the nitty gritty.
The Copywriting Intern will help write, edit, and concept content for our partners across the company, including Marketing, Product, Education, Support, Business Development, and Social. Plus, you’ll gain experience writing for every channel imaginable: digital ads, podcasts, TikTok videos, emails, commercials, web, in-app copy, educational articles, and support documents. In other words, if there’s something at Acorns that needs to be written, you’ll learn how to do it.
Now, here’s the really cool part — what you write could change someone’s future. Think about it. One day you come up with a killer line. That line goes on an Instagram ad. Someone sees that ad, signs up for Acorns, starts investing for themselves, and in 10 years they’ve got enough for a down payment on a house.
At Acorns, believe that the small things, like investing your spare change, can make a massive impact. It’s only fitting that we’d feel that way about copy, too.
Acorns is a remote-first organization, offering the flexibility to work remotely while providing optional access to office space in Irvine, CA. This role has the option to be remote within the United States or based in our Irvine, CA office. This role has an expected time commitment of 12-15 hours/week.
Work sponsorship is not available for this role, including Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), F-1 Visa program, and other visa sponsorships.
What you will do at Acorns:
Support the Creative team by helping write, edit, and concept all things copy at Acorns.
Learn and then apply the Acorns brand voice across all of your work.
Manage multiple projects at once and juggle varied writing demands.
Write about squirrels and how they are nature’s greatest investors.
Be prepared to discuss at length your weekend hobbies, strange obsessions, and everything you’re watching, reading, following, and listening to at the moment.
What we’re looking for:
You’ve got a background in writing. Maybe you have or are working on a degree in English, Journalism, or Marketing. Maybe you’re a standup or in a sketch comedy group. Maybe you write screenplays or short stories in your spare time. Or maybe you run a social account with really great captions.
You have a strong portfolio showcasing your best writing. If you have copy examples, that’s great! We’re also open to essays, articles, sketches, short stories, social posts — whatever you feel represents you best.
You find inspiration and insight everywhere, whether it’s a highbrow trend piece or a story your aunt told at Thanksgiving.
You’re a careful proofreader that always keeps an eye out for missing commas.
You’re always trying to put out their best work and can self-edit until you get there.
You’re a great communicator in person, on meetings, on Slack, and everywhere else.
You have strong opinions on how to bring in prospective customers and how to give current customers a great experience.
You’re curious, eager to learn, and a willing to tackle new projects

But you get the idea.

Compensation Information:
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be $20.00/hour.
