Your Team and Role
Working on the Design Team, you'll practice hands-on leadership and strong visual design craft skills - from discovery, to ideation and creating flow diagrams, mockups, to prototypes and polished screens. You will also lead and advise high-complexity projects from research, to discovery, scoping, and through to production across DuckDuckGo’s product areas. Recent projects include:
Envisioning our first AI product (Duck.ai) and shipping it to millions of users, setting a new standard in the industry for Privacy-first AI tools.
Rethinking the look and feel of our mobile and desktop browsers by leaning into our goals of user-delight and exceptional craft to both differentiate our brand and deliver a best in class experience.
As a Director, Product Design, you'll be helping to usher in a new era of delight within our protection and privacy focused products, working across objectives to generate and uncover new ideas that inspire our teams.
About You
Proven ability to lead and collaborate on high-impact and complex projects from proposal through post-mortem.
Skills to wrangle vague problems, propose innovative solutions, and execute them with a strong focus on metrics.
10+ years design experience with a minimum of 4+ years in lead-level design positions (e.g., Director, Lead) at significant global consumer brands.
A proven track record of individual product design contributions for mobile, desktop, and/or multi-platform apps, as demonstrated in your portfolio.
Demonstrable experience in your portfolio of high craft, creativity, and delightful user experiences.
A hands-on leadership style — you're happy to spend time performing complex design work as an individual contributor.
Proficiency in leading projects throughout the product development lifecycle, and the written communication skills necessary to define project goals for stakeholders to contribute effectively
Proven ability to inform design resourcing for projects across multiple product areas.
Ability to carry ideas forward with confidence and discretion while working proactively, independently, and transparently.
An acute aesthetic sensibility and formidable attention to detail.
Expertise and experience developing, scaling, and evolving design systems across products.
Experience coaching designers to raise our quality of design and grow new design leaders on the team.
Proficiency in leveraging both qualitative and quantitative data in making design decisions.
Compensation
$243,800 USD annually and stock options. Compensation is identical within professional levels, regardless of geographic location or team. Compensation for each professional level is transparent across the organization.

Please note that:
You’ll be required to attend meetings on camera via video conferencing
Expect to travel at least two times a year: once for our all-hands meetup and again for a team retreat (each around 4-5 days). While extenuating circumstances may impact attendance, everyone is strongly encouraged to attend.
While we offer a flexible work arrangement with no core hours, expect an average full-time commitment of 40 hours per week.
