About the Client Communications Team

The Client Communications team’s mission is to enable customers to foster deeper relationships with their clients by connecting them with the correct information at the right time across available channels. The Client Communications & Marketing team brings this mission to life by powering SMS, email, in-app messaging, and marketing tools that help self-care businesses engage clients with timely, personalized, and reliable communications, from appointment reminders to campaigns that drive business growth, ensuring every message builds trust and delivers value.

As the Engineering Manager for Client Communications, you’ll lead a team of engineers building the core platform that enables businesses to engage with their clients in meaningful, timely ways. You’ll be responsible for fostering a high-performing team culture, making strong technical decisions, and collaborating closely with your Product Manager, Designer, and Product Marketing Manager to deliver impactful customer outcomes. You care deeply about quality, reliability, and building delightful communication experiences at scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and support a team of engineers, setting clear expectations, providing coaching, and fostering growth.
  • Drive technical decisions within your team’s charter, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, and secure.
  • Ensure observability and operational maturity in all systems; your team owns their quality in production.
  • Partner closely with your product trio to make sound product and technical decisions, mitigate risks, and maintain delivery commitments.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with peers across R&D to align on goals and drive company-wide initiatives.
  • Set ambitious, achievable goals tied to company outcomes, and hold your team accountable to results.
  • Maintain a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Establish and monitor metrics that reflect both team health and system health, and act on them.
  • Participate in incident response, serving as Incident Commander when needed, and lead post-incident learning.

What You’ll Need to Thrive

  • Experience: 2+ years managing engineering teams and 6+ years as a software engineer. Experience building SaaS platforms, APIs, and full-stack web applications.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Proven ability to grow engineers’ careers, build high-performing teams, and create strong team culture.
  • Technical Depth: Familiarity with architecture patterns for reliable communications platforms and scaling systems.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to balance long-term platform evolution with delivering incremental customer value.
  • Collaboration: Strong partnership with product, design, and cross-functional peers; excellent communication with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Data-Driven Mindset: Ability to use data and metrics to guide decisions, track progress, and ensure accountability.
  • Craft & Care: Pride in delivering reliable, high-quality systems that businesses depend on daily.

Your First 6 Months

Within 1 month, you’ll:

  • Complete Boulevard’s onboarding and platform training.
  • Build strong relationships with your team, product trio, and key stakeholders across R&D.
  • Establish weekly 1:1s and begin understanding each team member’s strengths and growth opportunities.
  • Understand the business objectives and how the Client Communications team contributes to them.

Within 3 months, you’ll:

  • Establish clear expectations and a working agreement with your team.
  • Identify operational, technical, and product gaps in the domain.
  • Collaborate with your team to build a plan that addresses those gaps while supporting company OKRs.
  • Begin coaching engineers toward their growth goals, and track team health and productivity metrics.

After 6 months, you’ll:

  • Have delivered meaningful milestones to customers that align with your team charter and company objectives.
  • Demonstrated predictable planning and delivery cycles that provide incremental value.
  • Shown measurable progress toward team OKRs and closing identified technical/operational gaps.
  • Established a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement on your team.
  • Continued investing in your own growth while creating meaningful business impact through your team’s work.
