Your opportunity

New Relic is looking for an experienced Lead Product Designer to drive the evolution of our Maps product area. This feature helps engineering teams and their organizations respond to incidents faster by enabling seamless navigation and exploration of services and infrastructure.

As a Lead Product Designer on the platform team, you will play a critical role in shaping user experiences across New Relic’s ecosystem. This team acts as a bridge between product teams, ensuring consistency and usability at scale. Your focus will be on refining the mapping experience and the design system behind it to create a seamless and intuitive product.

As the perfect addition to the team, you are technically savvy. You understand when to leverage motion and other design techniques to improve user experience. You empathize with developers and DevOps Personas, striving to provide them with clear insights into their software architecture and data flows. You are driven by curiosity and interested in understanding their monitoring needs and the competitive landscape.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with engineering and product to define, refine, and evolve essential use cases. You’ll set a high bar for usability and user experience while ensuring Maps integrates cohesively across New Relic.

What you'll do

  • Evaluate and enhance the Maps experience to ensure it’s intuitive and consistent across the product.
  • Lead design execution with a user-first approach, identifying opportunities for optimization and innovation.
  • Develop a deep understanding of monitoring, system architecture, and New Relic's product areas so you can make informed design decisions based on the outcomes users are trying to achieve.
  • Define solutions that impact multiple product teams, aligning design decisions with business goals.
  • Distill feedback into well articulated and visually appealing solutions.
  • Partner effectively with product, engineering, and UX leaders to enhance collaboration, drive team efficiency, and improve overall product quality.
  • Demonstrate and promote best practices in knowledge sharing, collaboration, and facilitation within the team and across the organization.

This role requires

  • 8+ years of experience in enterprise software, developer tools, or SaaS B2B products.
  • A track record of designing delightful user experiences in complex products.
  • Passion for design systems, focusing on scalable solutions rather than one-off designs.
  • Strong experience in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Expertise in refining designs iteratively based on feedback.
  • Ability to lead constructive design critiques and guide teams toward improved outcomes.
  • Proficiency in Figma and other design tools.
  • Experience working with global teams across different time zones.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in English.

Bonus points if you have

  • Technical background or experience in data visualization.
  • Previous experience designing services and platforms.
  • Understanding of modern software architecture.
