Be our next roadsurfer!

We're on a mission to make vanlife simple, flexible, and inspiring. With Spots, we help our customers discover and book the perfect places to stay with their camper vans - whether it's a remote farm, a scenic vineyard, or a quiet corner by the lake.

Now, we’re taking the next big step: we aim to onboard larger campsites alongside our existing host network - dramatically expanding the variety of stays we can offer. At the same time, we’re refactoring and decoupling our systems to support this scale and flexibility long-term.

To support this evolution, we’re expanding our engineering team. As a (Senior) Backend Engineer in the Spots product area, you’ll be working on the foundation that powers our booking platform. You’ll help us integrate third-party systems, evolve our Symfony-based Pimcore architecture, and contribute to a clean, modular backend setup. You’ll collaborate with product managers and developers across the stack to deliver high-impact features.

The role - Your passion

  • Design and implement robust backend features in PHP, with a focus on clean, maintainable architecture

  • Develop integrations with external systems to onboard large campsites and design developer-friendly APIs that power our mobile app

  • Refactor and decouple tightly coupled system parts to improve scalability and future flexibility

  • Extend and maintain our Symfony-based setup, built on Pimcore and CoreShop

  • Improve code quality through testing, documentation, and thoughtful refactoring

  • Collaborate with cross-functional peers (including mobile developers and product managers) to ship end-to-end features

  • Participate in code reviews and take part in architectural discussions

What You Need to Surf the Wave with Us

  • 5+ years of experience in PHP backend development, ideally with Symfony

  • Strong grasp of modular architecture, clean code, and testing

  • Proficient in SQL and familiar with relational databases (e.g. MySQL)

  • Comfortable refactoring legacy code and reducing complexity

  • Independent, ownership-driven working style

  • Thoughtful and pragmatic - you dig deep to understand problems but keep solutions simple

  • Fluent in English and a collaborative team player

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Pimcore and/or CoreShop
